The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date
The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
